Happy birthday Abi!!

Phew, it's been a frantic birthday weekend and the girls have collapsed into bed exhausted. I think we may do the same! The weekend started on Friday morning with a very excited Abi and a very tearful Izzy. Not because Abi wasn't sharing or because she was upset she didn't have a birthday, she was just overwrought with the excitement at the end of a busy week. So, despite the periodic weeping they had a lovely start to the day of opening presents. Abi finally got her new wellies from Amanda, Alex and the boys and triumphantly turned to me to say "now I can come walking with you again Mummy!" About time - 2 weeks it's been since she vetoed all walking because I wouldn't allow her to have these before her birthday - stubborn child! Add to this new books, money and a big farm and farm animals - a very lucky and happy little girl set off to school proudly displaying her cake. This is clearly the signal for all the other children to rush up and wish you happy birthday so she was even more chuffed by the time we reached her classroom. After school it was a quick change before pizza with Jo and her 3 boys. Blimey 3 boys are noisier than 2 girls. I couldn't believe how much noise, movement and chaos they created and will admit to being glad I have girls, just 2 of them and they've reached an age where a high pitched squeal does not need to be repeated 20 times!

Saturday was a bit calmer - riding in the morning before the main event of the weekend, the rugby! Abi went off with Glenn, Lesley, Bash and Alby looking very grown up and very pleased to be allowed this special treat. She loved it, arriving home at 10pm looking tired but happy after a long day. Highlights - the singing, the flag waving and the score (28-9 to England). She managed to grab a flag and has written the score and is proudly displaying it in her room - a special memento of her afternoon with Daddy.

Today was more food, this time meeting Kerrie in Swindon for a yummy Sunday lunch in a very nice restaurant. We'd looked in through the door before but not eaten there but the girls obviously remembered it and were keen to dress the part for their 'posh' lunch. Posh it was but so nice to have the 3 girls together. How far we've come from when Abi was born and Kerrie didn't want to have anything to do with this new intruder into her life. Now they are as close as we could ever have hoped, with Kerrie and Abi in particular being very similar. On the way home we test drove a Landrover Discovery - long story and 'my fault' for getting the Merc stuck in the mud at the stables yesterday. Apparently I'd be better in a 4x4 and so off we went. This one was a V8 with go faster exhausts and so made a huge noise when we started it. Abi was grinning from ear to ear "is that us?!" she asked?? There's no hope. I'm surrounded by petrol heads!

Back to work - crazy week this week, Switzerland next week and then it starts to move into the final eating / drinking / feeling generally unhealthy madness of pre-Christmas. Getting my detox head on early I think to avoid the worst of it!

Cough, cough

Izzy - can't do a photo without rude finger gestures It's fair to say that the last couple of weeks have been rough. I managed to get the cough Mum had a while back and it has been horrible! Both Dad and Glenn seemed to get a very mild version of it but Mum and I got the full dose and I can safely say that it has been a stark reminder of just how bad a viral infection can be. It also illustrates the whole Covid experience - some get it worse than others. For me it has meant that for over 2 weeks I have had the worst cough which has left me unable to sleep properly. I still can't sleep lying down fully, and have to be propped up on pillows on my back which is not my favoured sleeping position! It has also meant that Glenn has spent the last 10 days in the spare room because I have been coughing so badly he is unable to sleep in the same room. Thank goodness we didn't all have it - we'd have shaken the house to its foundations! It has also meant that I have been exhau

It's beginning to feel a bit like Christmas...

I was sure I write the blog last week.... but, it seems another 2 weeks have flown by and now we are staring down the barrel of the Christmas holidays and the end of the year! Currently it's all about Doug and what a star he has proved to be so far. He has now been with us for 3 weeks and he is (so far, I keep thinking at some point it will change) a pretty chilled out puppy. As a second dog he has been thrown in at the deep end and has been to Sunday lunch with Alan & Sarah (which he loved), socialised at home with friends and their dogs, met babies (he loved Elsie) and started to go for walks. The walking has been a bit different to our previous approaches with new dogs. In the past we have ventured out carefully, making sure that our new baby only walks a short distance so they can experience all the new sights and sounds. Doug's first walk was after Sunday lunch last week, just him and 8 other dogs for bout 45 mins - he loved it! In our defence we didn't let him wal

March!

Betty kisses! Blink and 3 weeks have sped by - just like that! The good news is that it's a) beginning to feel like Spring (well, some of the time), and b) that means we are nearly through year end at work which is a blessed relief - that last couple of weeks have been pretty intense.  Although it's been busy, we have a good few weeks, including a lovely weekend where Glenn and I managed to get away on our own for the first time in 2 years - amazing! We only went to a cottage in Devon for 2 nights but the cottage was really nicely arranged and we settled in very quickly. We did have to adjust a bit t the fact that it was in the middle of nowhere - us and sheep - but Glenn had Wi-Fi and the rugby and I had plenty of time to walk so we were both happy. Kerrie and Elsie came and stayed with the kids so they had a great time also, with lots of time to realise that a young baby might look like fun but it's a lot of hard work! Betty and Doug went to Mum and Dad's. They surviv
