Oh the excitement is building... only 11 days to go and the girls are quite literally counting down the minutes to Kerrie's wedding. Glenn, as father of the bride and the one who has to give a speech, is less excited. In fact, unlike the rest of the family, he doesn't even know what he is wearing! Abi and Izzy on the other hand are desperate to wear their new shoes / dresses / necklaces etc. and have spent much of the weekend trying to convince me that fake nails (for them not me) is clearly the way forward. While I would never normally condone this at their age, it's not every day that your sister gets married so what the heck - caution has been thrown to the wind and we are looking at the options as Izzy is ecstatically demonstrating in the picture.
There is some method to my madness - they've been trying to persuade me to book them appointments at the nail salon which for all 3 of us would require a small mortgage and (as we discovered yesterday), at least a months notice for a reputable salon. If we are happy to go to the Chinese nail bar (I always have been up to now on the odd occasion I get nails done), then its a walk up and wait, and of course a far amount cheaper. We will turn a blind eye to the fact that the last time we went there the girls walked away asking lots of questions about modern day slavery - I guess I should be pleased some of that background noise Radio 4 is sinking in!
So instead of making them accessories to a crime, we spent half of today seeking out some stick on nails that aren't impossible to apply. I had to smile at this. Izzy was off with a friend cheering her on at a triathlon (the same schools tri competition which Izzy sank in the pool last year!), and Abi had asked if we could go to a small country show we had seen advertised. It was only 40 mins away so she and I waved goodbye to Izzy and set off for that. We walked around for an hour or so, concluded there wasn't much happening once we'd seen the owls and the sheepdog puppies, so Abi asked if we could get some fake nails on the way home. Just like normal - Mummy "please magic up fake nails on a Sunday afternoon in the middle of the countryside!" We set of in search of a Tesco as our best bet, on the way seeing a Drive Thru Costa Coffee which we had to stop at. Apparently both kids have wanted to go to one for ages. Who knew it was such an ambition?! Having ticked that particular life goal off we found a Tesco and purchased nails and nail remover. Once home we compromised on one nail only given they would have to come off almost immediately for school. This meant Abi then spent the 2 hours showing everybody who would look her one enormous nail. It seems to be fairly straight forward so watch out wedding goers - they'll be armed with talons!
Only 7 more school days to go - will they be able to wait? Can' believe that means it's only 7 more school days until half term - are they ever at school?!? Haven't sorted any plans for the summer yet - eek!
