And...relax!

Ah, what a lovely week. Despite the after effects of the school flu bug making me feel slightly under par all week, its been a lovely week of doing exactly what I want, when I want. This has meant a trip to Mum and Dad's (on my own - what a luxury!), a massage, some extra yoga and lots and lots of fresh air.

This week also brought my leaving do at work which I've not been looking forward to particularly. I'm not one for being the centre of attention, and I always think that no-one will bother turning up to something that's about me, so the idea of an evening that is all about me is a bit scary in reality. I went up to London on the 9am train, which reminded me I hate doing later trains, definitely something to remember in a few weeks! They are always compromised - this was 3 carriages instead of 6 - and full of people who don't do the commute every day and so are a bit out of sorts with the journey. I then had a whole day of catching up with lovely people, including lunch with an old PwC partner friend, before the drinks started at 6pm. My fears of no-one turning up were unfounded and it was a lovely group of people who came to share their best wishes for me as I head out of the door. Rob gave a lovely speech about how much everyone will miss me, and I was given a number of beautiful gifts including a gorgeous (huge!) framed picture of the London skyline taken by our very talented local IT manager and a Mont Blanc pen. I went home feeling very blessed and sad that I will be leaving so many fab people behind, if not just a bit excited that now I feel I can really start my break before the new role kicks in.

This weekend has been another wet one after a soggy week which followed the big melt. The woods are immersed in a permanent puddle and the dog towels are in constant use. Today Glenn was at the rugby so after a run (10 miles - by far enough given today was the first day I've started to feel better) Abi baked a very passable lemon drizzle cake before I started to try and shift them both toward the door to do something active. Abi has been in such a slump with the weather impacting on her riding and so in particular I wanted to get her outside.

We settled on a swim and once again were blessed with a pool that had hardly anyone in it.
We had a good splash about with a bit of proper swimming, then home for tea and cake having (sort of) justified it. They then spent the next hour or so playing with the dog food tins in the utility room - setting them out as a school room with double height tins as the teachers and single as the pupils. I love the fact that they still do play make believe sometimes - it shows their imagination isn't completely dulled despite the use of electronic devices whenever they are allowed. I'm trying to limit it and so far I'm winning at least on the fact that they hand them over and then go find something else to do. Long may that continue.

The other big news of the week was the arrival of Glenn's new van. He is sooooo excited by this! In fact the van wasn't ready - one of the side doors isn't working properly, it's missing the proper leather seats and there is a decal still to be applied but he couldn't wait and so he took it as is, accepting that he has to take it back in 2 weeks to be finished off. It is fab but it's taking some getting used to not to have 3 cars on the driveway. the main thing is that if we are both out there's obviously no-one at home which didn't used to be the case - we always had one car on the driveway. This is however no reason to get another car, even if Glenn is already angling for some classic money pit for high days and holidays!

So one more week at school and then it's half term and Rome - if I can just stop worrying about the dogs I cans tart looking forward to that!

Just hanging out in the boot cupboard!

Busy, busy, busy

Full English brunch for these two! Life is VERY busy and I don't feel like we have stopped for weeks (or is that months?) It seems like the 'to-do' list is endless and while I know we don't have to do it all at once, I have taken on the unenviable task of trying to get the Muppet to finish all the work he promised / we have paid for and that has been like pushing a mountain of water up a very steep hill. We've got to the point where I think we have got all of what we are likely to get and the rest we'd rather finish ourselves anyway. The electric gates are clearly a work of his imagination based on the gates / the electric cables he spec'd and the cheapo motor mechanism - there is no way they'll work so we have decided to not bother and source proper gates that do the job and look better as well. Knowing that we are almost at a point where we sever the ties feels very liberating. Looking back this last 6 months has been incredibly stressful and just didn...

More frustrations!

An old one to remind myself how cute they were! Sunday evening, back to school after half term and the normal shouting match ensues as we ask where all Abi's kit is and she shrugs and says "it's not my fault..." There are a number of aspects that drive us nuts here - first that her immediate response is denial and abdication of all responsibility, the second that she genuinely doesn't care and the third that it still doesn't help is with where her (mostly new) sports kit is! While this is going on we have Izzy sorting her kit out while weeping quietly because she has decided (18 months after we said goodbye to him) that she misses Scooby! We decided it was just easier to suggest everyone gets an early night and packed them off to their rooms - there really isn't an answer for some of this I think! This week has been a mix of school testing - the kids went of to St Gabriel's for their tests on Wednesday, Abi riding, Izzy doing her gym practice and...

Lockdown - month 3

Bertie hoping to be allowed to move into Abi's shed As we pass the mark of 2 months in lockdown it has become all very normal - in fact as I walked Bertie yesterday I was resentful of the cars whizzing past me when it's been so peaceful for so long. We have now moved from 'Stay at Home' to 'Stay Alert' (England anyway, the wee Krankie up North refuses to do anything remotely aligned to the rest of the UK on principal). Apparently the majority of the country finds the new message very confusing - " what does it mean?" they ask themselves. This is what the media would have us believe anyway, because what else is there to do in lockdown but shit stir and create confusion when there is no need. We have definitely now  moved past the point of being in this together and gone back to the normal blame game. So much for solidarity. Friday also marked the end of the first half of term, although half term has never felt so much like school, or more accurate...
