A month of birthdays!

Another week has flashed by and I can safely say that the process of getting into my job is leaving me absolutely dog tired. Despite this I'm really enjoying it and now I'm beginning to get the feel of the place I can see where I can make a difference. There is plenty to do - the trick will be agreeing what to do when.

Thank goodness I had the sense a few months ago to make sure that our weekends at the moment are as clear as possible - I really don't have the energy to do much more than stay local and relax. Don't even ask me how I would be feeling right now if I was staring down the barrel of the London Marathon!

The downside of this enforced weekend relaxation is that we didn't make it to Audrey's 40th birthday party this weekend, a countryside bash in Devon replete with log fires and a 'bring a dog' philosophy. Much as I would have liked to have seen everyone, I will admit to feeling immensely pleased I'd said no right from the get-go. Having made it to Friday feeling knackered, waving Glenn off to his France trip (Tour of Flanders), the idea of sorting dogs and guinea pigs out before heading off to Tiverton for an evening would have been the last straw. We are seeing them over Easter so that will have to do, and I made sure our presence was sort of felt by sending flowers, chocolates and bubbles to greet them on arrival - hopefully that makes up for it a little. April is a month of birthdays, starting with Amanda and ending with Izzy so there are plenty more to come.

So while the rest of the family disappeared to Devon, and Glenn went to France, the girls and I stayed at home and had a lovely weekend. I went to a brilliant hot yoga class yesterday at my normal studio - Camilla (owner) had been on a course where they had done Forrest in 30 degrees so she decided to give it a go in her studio,. It was fab - we were dripping with sweat which made the body more open and so the poses deeper. I cam home thirsty but energised. We then went and pottered around town for a while, had lunch in a cafe (persuading Abi that there are food outlets other than Pret!) and then came home for a dog walk and film. Perfect. Today was a run, breakfast and then wait for Glenn to get home before a quiet evening and bed. Can't believe it's Sunday again!

I would write more but it's time to go to bed as another 5:15am start tomorrow. Also got to go check Abi is not in the bath - she came down earlier saying she was planning on sleeping in there with her duvet because it's 'so comfy'. Better that the last nights suggestion which was that we could all have a sleepover in my bed given Glenn was away - they clearly don't appreciate that some of us have to get up in the morning!! Night night x

Snow!

After a beautiful day of sunshine yesterday, today it snowed... but more of that in a minute. Yesterday actually felt like a day of much progress. Despite Covid we managed to arrange a visit to Taunton School to have a look around with the girls and to meet the Headmaster. This was a massive relief as I had got to the point of thinking we would have to accept a place without ever stepping foot inside the school. In the end we had a very comprehensive, if a little deserted, tour of the school and the kids loved it, as did we. There may even be a small chance they might squeeze us in if we are there by the summer term - that is of course if the kids are back into school by then. The other news was that I managed to speak to Mr &Mrs Tucker - the people buying our house - and we tentatively agreed that we will try and complete during the Easter holidays which could have us moving in the third week of April. This does require everyone to have got all of what they need done, and that of ...

Busy, busy, busy

Full English brunch for these two! Life is VERY busy and I don't feel like we have stopped for weeks (or is that months?) It seems like the 'to-do' list is endless and while I know we don't have to do it all at once, I have taken on the unenviable task of trying to get the Muppet to finish all the work he promised / we have paid for and that has been like pushing a mountain of water up a very steep hill. We've got to the point where I think we have got all of what we are likely to get and the rest we'd rather finish ourselves anyway. The electric gates are clearly a work of his imagination based on the gates / the electric cables he spec'd and the cheapo motor mechanism - there is no way they'll work so we have decided to not bother and source proper gates that do the job and look better as well. Knowing that we are almost at a point where we sever the ties feels very liberating. Looking back this last 6 months has been incredibly stressful and just didn...

Freya

So I write this with tears pouring down my face as I get ready to take Freya to the vets for the last time. We've just had a long cuddle and she's looking at me with those big trusting eyes - as far as she is concerned it's a normal day and I'm the person who keeps her safe, protects her from the world and makes sure there is a steady supply of porridge every morning. My darling Freya - so sweet in the house but so anxious and volatile when out of it. We've known this day has been coming for a while. We've had various run ins, all near misses because I've managed to hold her when we've met other dogs and she's gone nuts, but there are all the other things which I have tried to block out... The most recent of which was her snapping at Izzy when she bent down to give her a cuddle. Freya was asleep admittedly, but even so. I made the excuse to myself that her legs had been a bit sore that day and so it's because she might have been in pain rat...
