Isn't it typical, you wait all winter for snow, and it arrives on a day when the girls have to go to school, and I have to get to an appointment in Basingstoke which I don't really want to change. We woke on Tuesday morning to a perfect winter wonderland. The garden looked pristine covered in an almost decent 2" of snow. I took Scooby for a walk as the 5am early morning moonlight glinted off the snow and it was just lovely. Of course by midday day the slush had taken over and that was that. In fact I drove (slid) to Basingstoke, parked in an ice rink / car park, watched a bloke get out of his car and promptly fall over, then went to London. By the time we arrived in Waterloo there was no sign of snow and I could have dreamt the whole thing. The girls definitely tried to make the most of it, building the smallest snowman (blob) in the world, but it just wasn't enough to really get excited. Maybe we will go skiing next year...
One more week and then it's half term - yippee! Can't wait - it feels like it's been a pretty long 5 weeks since Christmas, even though I can't believe that once we've done half term (which will disappear in a flash) it will be almost March. Of course once we've got to March the year speeds up even more and it will be summer, autumn and then Christmas again. Aghhhh!
Despite waking up as happy as ever this morning (always happy on a Sunday), Izzy threw a blinder of a tantrum today - most unlike her. I checked her spelling book this morning to find that she'd
managed to get only 5 out of 10 in her test on Friday. Not only had she spelt 3 wrong, her writing was so loopy on 2 more you couldn't tell whether she'd spelt them right or not, so they were marked
wrong. The tantrum was not because of this, but because I made her write them out again neatly until they were right, which took 3 attempts. We had pencil throwing, tears, storming out of the room and all sorts. It was almost like she's been taking lessons from Abi. We managed to resolve it in the end, mainly through Abi advising smugly that she "should just get on with it" while swanning around being the perfect angel. This is why you have 2 children!
After all the excitement of Abi's new bike, it turns out they do Izzy's in the same colour scheme. Cue Glenn suggesting that we could swap hers out for one of these so now they both have Team Sky branded bikes - if only the weather would warm up a but so we can take them out. Abi was all up for going again this weekend but is full of cold and very croaky so I didn't think it wise. I've learnt my lesson before of getting half way round the route you've planned only for one of the kids to hit the wall and have to then get them home. This happened last weekend with Izzy who was just too cold for cycling and she gave up and started to sulk - not good when you still have to cycle home along a reasonably busy road. She stopped concentrating and hit the curb, falling off her bike in a sprawling heap. My heart was in my mouth - what if she'd fallen the other way into the road? I shouted, she cried and we limped home - lesson learned.
5 days and counting - roll on half term!
