Quick post as after 2 fun filled, rainy but glorious weeks off its back to work tomorrow and if I don't get a reasonably early night I will be a very grumpy lady in the morning. Actually it's a soft landing to start with - I have a day without meetings, I'm in Reading and Glenn is bringing the girls in to meet me for lunch. Not all bad then.
Today was a day of contrasts. One of my 'to do's' was to muck out the kids rooms and more importantly their drawers, over the last months it seems we have put more in and haven't taken anything out, to the point where every time they search for a particular item everything else goes everywhere. This meant I had to hold them at bay while I pulled it all out asking the question "does it fit, do you wear it?". Of course they didn't want to get rid of all kids of stuff that they've grown out of so it escalated into WW3 and we all ended up shouting. I then went downstairs to find they'd trashed the playroom again, despite the fact they'd watched me tidy up only an hour before grrrr! This resulted in me saying they wouldn't be going to this afternoons ice skating party, so more shouting. Some families discuss, others shout - we are the latter. In the end Abi fled to the pod, Izzy to her room and I went round everyone explaining why I was upset and calming us all down. Cue hugs, apologies all round and a bit of calm. Glenn had gone out on his bike and came back to a peaceful house which hardly belied what had gone before - I guess that's a victory?
Sorries duly said we set off to the party and while Izzy took to the ice like a pro (unlike Lapland where she could hardly stand up on the ice!), Abi found her first time on the ice much more difficult. I went round with her slipping over every 2 mins until she whispered to me "Dint tell Daddy but I'm going to get a penguin!" So off she set holding onto her support penguin until she gained the confidence to go it alone. At one point she said to me "I'm ready, hold the penguin!", only to fall over and shout "No I'm not!" She's so funny sometimes. Izzy roared around with barely a spill - where that came from I don't know!
This evening we got home and it's fair to say they were quite tired and collapsed on the sofa with Glenn, full of how much they enjoyed it - he's even taking them again in Tuesday before back to school on Wednesday. Just to prove how tired, Glenn went up to check on them before we sat down and found Izzy fast asleep on the floor. I went up to put her back in her bed and she woke briefly to say "what am I doing here, ah bed, have you missed me?!" Then back to sleep - if only everyone slept that well!
